8th St Extension

This is a couple days late, but I went out for a sunset ride.  I figured the trails were going to be a little too wet, so I stuck to 8th St extension.  To get there you go down 8th St from downtown–which takes you to Camel’s Back park–park in the first lot, and continue riding up the road.  The road will very quickly turn to dirt.  There are no surprises–it’s a road–and there aren’t any places you could get off track.  As of today, there are two closed gates to keep motorists off the road since it can get pretty washed out.  Just ride around those and keep going.

To me, 8th St is a little easier than Rocky Canyon Rd because there are more grade changes and even a few downhills on the way up.  If you’re getting worked by a section of hill, hang in there and you’ll likely be rewarded with a slightly easier grade very quickly.

Riding at Sunset meant that I was on a timeline.  I made it 5 miles up before I had to turn around.  Here is the downhill elevation profile:
